Torts Illustrated

October 30, 2013 at 1:32 pm

As captain of the law school’s Ultimate Frisbee team, Torts Illustrated, I know the motivational power of a good .gif. So after finding this sweet image, I added a little motion to really get our team jazzed and also inform them about our upcoming game. It worked, as we almost won.

Featuring some old school Algerian and an image from this site.

The Litisk8rs

If there’s one group of dudes at the law school you don’t want to mess with, it’s the Litisk8rs. Actually that’s not true—there’s just four of us and we’re all pretty friendly. Andrew, David, Brandon, and I not only share the common trait of bein’ good looking law students, but we like to skateboard too. When we discovered this common bond our first reaction was to go get tattoos. After searching without success for a tattoo parlor on BYU campus, we turned to idly speaking of getting t-shirts printed up. I designed a logo to facilitate such idle discussion, and the rest is history.

Litisk8rs on the loose at Provo Skatepark.

The typeface featured is Lavendaria. The skull comes from a drawing by the talented Probably Zack.

UPDATE:
No more idle chatter here, check it out (shirt, not flowers):

Rivalry Wallpaper

In September Utah Football’s senior class completed it’s sweep over rival BYU by winning a fourth straight game, something that hadn’t been done since, well, 2005. I couldn’t help but commemorate the momentous accomplishment by designing and displaying a wallpaper for my computer. It’s things like this that make me such a hit in Provo.

The numbers at the bottom are from the Homestead typeface.

A logo for the Business Law Association using the typeface of Homestead. Designer in Law was well represented at the law school club fair, as this completes the trifecta of posters I designed:

Law & Economics Club

As a member of the Law & Economics club, I volunteered to design the poster for this year’s club fair. Because Richard Posner is considerably less photogenic than Adam Smith, I chose the latter as my subject.

The design contains the typefaces of Rockwell, AW Conqueror Didot, and Clayton.

Weekly Wall Squat Association

You might not believe this, but when I first came to BYU Law there was no club for wall squatting. There were other clubs of course, the Federalist Society, public interest, and whatnot. But the absence of a wall squat club cast a pall over the school. Nevertheless, Andrew Berne, David Beatty, and I did squat against a wall, though unofficially, from time to time during our 1L year. Soon others were squatting with us, and before we knew it the wall squat culture was alive and well at BYU Law.

At the beginning of our 2L year we petitioned to have the club made official. The petition was accepted, thanks in part to the lobbying efforts of Josh James. Now the J. Reuben Clark Weekly Wall Squat Association has 25 dues-paying members, and its members squatted a cumulative 12 hours, 14 minutes, and 41 seconds last year.

The club logo features the typefaces of AW Conqueror Didot and Geared.

LawHelp

BYU Law has a cool program called LawHelp in which students and practicing attorneys volunteer to help people get answers to legal questions. I was asked to design a logo for the program.

The logo features the typefaces of Carton and Clayton.

Cheese Party

There is no better way to ring in the new law school year than with cheese. So, at the end of the summer, Cassidie and I threw our second annual cheese party. An event like this calls for an invitation, and an invitation like that calls for a really long cracker with pieces of cheese that look like cheese.

Bobo is Home

July 4, 2013 at 8:00 am

Back in the day my friend and I were into installment art. We called our work Cupmunicate. It was a big hit, and we even got local radio famous. But then we grew up and got boring and didn’t cupmunicate anymore. When my brother-in-law returned from his LDS mission last summer, I was asked to get on the horse for one last ride. After procuring a stockpile of fresh cups,

and getting some help from dedicated sisters-in-law, we welcomed Bobo home in style:

Happy Birthday Cassidie

I wanted to make a poster for Cassidie Anne‘s birthday, so I stuck with the old timey theme from my Piennoyer poster. There’s a blueprint plotter on campus where you can print five foot posters like this one for $3, which is pretty cool.

This poster features the typeface of Brothers.
